Physiology/biochemistry of numbness during/after meditation.

Dear all, this is my first post here, happy to be here.

Did my first Vipassana recently, trying to keep the practice going. If I commit to 1000 of hours of practice I would really like to know a bit more about numbness.

I found a few discussions of numbness during/after meditation (click, click [which has link to nerve picture of numbness]).

However, I wanted to know more complete physiological picture of numbness. Aren't cells dying with the limited blood flow? If you can give me a link on a peer-reviewed journal, that would be helpful.
